Hyundai Motor India Limited has partnered with Indian Oil Corporation Limited to investigate the possibility of implementing Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) for mass use in India. The collaboration involves real-world testing of the Hyundai NEXO Hydrogen FCEV by IndianOil over a span of two years, covering an estimated 40,000 km. The partnership aims to evaluate the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of hydrogen-powered vehicles specifically tailored for the Indian market. Additionally, a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) assessment will be conducted to analyze the maintenance and operational costs of these vehicles, crucial for understanding their economic viability. The collaboration aligns with HMIL's strategy to combine world-class hydrogen fuel cell technology with Indian expertise to promote sustainable mobility and clean energy solutions in India. Dr. Alok Sharma from IndianOil Corporation emphasized the significance of hydrogen fuel in India's clean energy roadmap, highlighting the potential of this collaboration to enhance fuel cell technology research. The partnership also extends to the development of a 'Hydrogen Innovation Centre' in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, focusing on testing and advancing green hydrogen technology to shape the future of clean energy and mobility solutions in India.
