The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) have recently collaborated by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pioneer the bioenergy and bio-hydrogen sector in India. This partnership envisions the establishment of a knowledge center, resource pooling, and training programs to enhance the biofuels industry. They plan to work closely on policy advocacy, research and development, and capacity-building activities to drive the growth of biofuels across the country. Gaurav Kedia, Chairman of IBA, highlighted that at a policy level, IBA is already engaged with multiple ministries to establish regulations supporting biogas, bio-CNG, and renewable energy sectors. By fostering collaboration between central and state ministries, the collaboration aims to accelerate the development of biogas. The strategic alliance between IOCL and IBA will also focus on proposing policy incentives for different categories of biofuels. Moreover, the MoU emphasizes the synergy of research and development efforts in the biofuels domain, with a special emphasis on fostering partnerships between industry and institutes. IBA, established in 2011 and revamped in 2015, holds the distinction of being India's first nationwide professional biogas association. The renewed focus is on promoting a sustainable future through the adoption of biogas technologies.
