India and the European Union have jointly launched two major research and innovation initiatives under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) to strengthen bilateral partnership on trade and technology. With a significant joint investment, the initiatives focus on coordinated calls in the areas of Marine Plastic Litter (MPL) and Waste to Green Hydrogen (W2GH), co-funded by Horizon Europe and the Government of India. The aim is to drive innovation towards sustainable solutions for shared environmental challenges. Collaboration between Indian and European researchers will play a key role in developing technologies to combat marine pollution and promote sustainable energy. The partnership highlights a commitment to sustainable development, innovation, circular economy, and energy efficiency to pave the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future benefiting both India and the EU. The research efforts will focus on combating marine pollution, including marine plastic litter, by developing tools to detect pollutants, assess risks to marine life, evaluate bioaccumulation effects, and introduce innovative solutions for reducing marine plastics. Additionally, the initiatives will address the urgent need for sustainable energy through waste-to-green hydrogen technologies, aligning with global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy security. The joint calls aim to accelerate the development of advanced strategies for protecting marine ecosystems and achieving energy transition goals, reflecting a positive outlook towards driving innovation for a greener and more sustainable future.
