Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Prahlad Joshi, introduced the Green Hydrogen Certification scheme in India to establish a framework for certifying green hydrogen production. The scheme mandates that producers undergo a certification process to verify the exclusive use of renewable energy sources. This initiative aims to ensure transparency, traceability, and market credibility in the green hydrogen sector. The certification will be overseen by Accredited Carbon Verification Agencies listed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. Additionally, a national workshop in New Delhi emphasized the crucial role of MSMEs in the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Over 300 delegates, including MSMEs, policymakers, and industry associations, participated to explore opportunities in building a self-reliant green hydrogen ecosystem by 2030. The workshop focused on empowering MSMEs through capacity building, finance facilitation, and technology linkages. Prahlad Joshi reiterated India's commitment to becoming a global leader in hydrogen production, targeting 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. The government plans to award additional green hydrogen production capacity and has already allocated subsidies to companies for green hydrogen production. India has attracted significant investments in the green hydrogen sector, with the World Bank acknowledging its potential to be a leading producer of green hydrogen globally.
