In a significant move towards modernizing and simplifying the licensing process for hydrogen fuel infrastructure, the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) in India has introduced an online application system for Compressed Hydrogen Dispensing Stations (CHDS). Starting from May 14, 2025, all new license applications under Form-H of the Gas Cylinder Rules, 2016 must be submitted using this digital platform. The shift towards online applications aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and convenience for both new applicants and existing CHDS operators. Alongside the online system, PESO has provided operational guidelines in a help file to assist users in navigating the application process. The step-by-step guide for submitting a Form-H application online includes accessing the portal, logging in with valid credentials, setting up a new application, providing details on hydrogen generation and storage, uploading required documents and drawings, making online payments for fees, and ensuring a final review before submission. The online payment process auto-calculates fees and provides a payment gateway for transactions. This digital transformation by PESO is a significant milestone in the growth of India's hydrogen infrastructure. Stakeholders are encouraged to switch to the online system promptly to facilitate faster approvals and ensure adherence to regulations and compliance standards. For existing applications or amendments, users can follow a similar procedure under the Subsequent Application tab and select the relevant transaction type, such as Amendment or Renewal. The move towards digitalization is expected to support India's efforts in advancing its hydrogen economy and promoting sustainable energy practices.
