Toyota and Sinotruk have entered into an agreement to collaborate on accelerating the introduction of hydrogen (H2) trucks in China. This partnership, although signed in April, was recently publicized. The focus of the agreement is on not only jointly developing H2 trucks but also creating new business models and a comprehensive ecosystem for CO2-neutral logistics. Toyota's Executive Vice President, Yoichi Miyazaki, emphasized the potential of the Chinese market for fuel cell vehicles during the agreement signing in Japan. The collaboration also aims to open up new sales opportunities for Toyota's third-generation fuel cell system, set to launch in 2026 for various applications including cars, commercial vehicles, trains, ships, and stationary use. Toyota intends to introduce the fuel cell system in Japan, Europe, North America, and China. Sinotruk, China's largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer, is a significant player in promoting alternative drive systems and has previously received a substantial order for 1,100 FC trucks. This partnership showcases Toyota's strategic move to target the commercial vehicle market with its compact fuel cell drive design, ensuring ease of integration into various vehicles for improved efficiency and performance.
