India's government has introduced a new green hydrogen certification scheme to boost transparency and credibility in production processes. The initiative, led by Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi, aims to create a framework for certifying green hydrogen production, ensuring transparency, traceability, and market credibility. The scheme primarily applies to companies that have participated in government incentive programs for green hydrogen production, with a notable exclusion of exporters who haven't availed these incentives. Additionally, the scheme establishes a 'materiality threshold,' requiring emission sources to account for 1% of the total emission threshold to meet green hydrogen standards. The renewable energy used for green hydrogen production can be derived from projects and transmitted via dedicated or common transmission lines. This development signifies India's commitment to promoting sustainable energy practices and enhancing the uptake of green hydrogen in the country's energy mix.
