Azerbaijan is making significant progress in the realm of green energy, with a notable focus on incorporating hydrogen technology into its future energy landscape. Deputy Minister of Energy Elnur Soltanov highlighted this commitment during the EBRD Annual Meetings in London, shedding light on Azerbaijan's evolving energy strategy centered around renewable resources. While the country is not yet a leader in hydrogen technology, Soltanov emphasized the potential of offshore wind energy in advancing green hydrogen production. He underscored the importance of hydrogen as a storage solution for surplus energy, offering insights into how excess energy from renewables can be channeled into hydrogen production, which can later be converted back into electricity or exported as a versatile energy carrier. Moreover, Azerbaijan's emphasis on green hydrogen extends to blue hydrogen, utilizing its abundant natural gas reserves and depleted oil fields for carbon capture and storage. Despite adjustments in global hydrogen expectations, Azerbaijan remains steadfast in its pursuit of green hydrogen technologies. Soltanov envisions leveraging the country's Caspian Sea resources and existing infrastructure to create a harmonious relationship between renewable energy sources, offshore wind, and hydrogen technology, fostering a sustainable green energy ecosystem.
