  • The collaboration showcases Clariant's role in bridging conventional and renewable energy systems to meet the growing demand for sustainable aviation fuels.
  • INERATEC's modular plants use renewable hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ to produce e-fuels, offering low-carbon alternatives for aviation, shipping, and chemical industries.
  • The innovative catalyst by Clariant, ShiftMax 100 RE, excels in efficiency, selectivity, and durability, making it a key element in industrial e-fuel production for hard-to-abate sectors like aviation.
Clariant, a sustainability-focused specialty chemical company, has provided its ShiftMax 100 RE catalyst for INERATEC's commercial-scale e-Fuels plant in Industry Park Hoechst, Germany. The facility, named 'ERA ONE,' is set to recycle 8,000 tons of CO₂ annually to produce up to 2,500 tons of sustainable e-Fuels, primarily targeting the aviation sector. This collaboration demonstrates Clariant's commitment to sustainable fuel technology innovation. The Vice President at Clariant, Georg Anfang, highlighted the importance of the collaboration in meeting the increasing demand for sustainable aviation fuels worldwide. The CEO of INERATEC, Tim Boeltken, praised Clariant's catalyst technology for enabling the production of drop-in ready e-fuels that meet industry standards. INERATEC, based in Karlsruhe, Germany, aims to produce e-Fuels and e-chemicals as low-carbon alternatives to fossil fuels for various industries. Their modular plants utilize renewable hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ to produce synthetic fuels like kerosene-SAF, synthetic gasoline, e-Diesel, and e-Waxes. Clariant's ShiftMax 100 RE catalyst is a crucial component in the e-fuels production process, offering high efficiency in converting green hydrogen and CO₂ into syngas. The catalyst's properties, including selectivity, resistance to coking, and high-temperature stability, contribute to increased productivity and durability, essential for economic viability. The produced e-Fuels are direct replacements for conventional fuels, suitable for existing engines and infrastructure without modifications. This makes them an attractive solution for challenging sectors like aviation, where electrification is complex. The collaboration between Clariant and INERATEC signifies a significant step towards a sustainable future in the fuel industry.
