In a high-level meeting, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh directed the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) to explore the feasibility of introducing green hydrogen-propelled buses as part of the state government's target to become a green energy state by March 2026. The initiative aims to enhance transport services in the state, considering its tough geographical topography. The plan includes operating 297 type-I and 30 type-II e-buses by the set deadline, along with implementing a single bus pass system and real-time bus monitoring for better efficiency. Furthermore, the government plans to adopt digital technology in HRTC's functioning, including establishing an e-office system at the headquarters. Additionally, a workshop in Theog, Shimla district, will be set up to support HRTC in becoming a sustainable institution. These efforts highlight a positive step towards environmental sustainability and efficient public transport in Himachal Pradesh.
