India and the European Union have launched two major research and innovation initiatives focusing on marine plastic litter and waste-to-green-hydrogen solutions. These initiatives, launched under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council established in 2022, aim to strengthen the bilateral partnership on trade and technology. With a joint investment of Rs391 crore, the initiatives address Marine Plastic Litter (MPL) and Waste to Green Hydrogen (W2GH) through coordinated calls co-funded by Horizon Europe and the Indian government. Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the government, emphasized the importance of collaborative research, stating that it is the cornerstone of innovation. The EU Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, highlighted the significance of these research calls in driving innovation, circular economy, and energy efficiency. Delphin stated that by working together on issues like marine pollution and sustainable energy, both regions can benefit from cutting-edge technologies while promoting economic and environmental sustainability. The initiatives reflect the commitment of both the EU and India towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. The joint efforts under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council underscore the increasing momentum of collaboration and partnership between the two regions.
