The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, announced that India is undergoing a significant shift towards green hydrogen. With an estimated investment of ₹2,00,000 crore, the country is actively implementing green hydrogen initiatives. Currently, there are nine R&D and demonstration plants under construction, and four have already been commissioned by major oil refineries such as Indian Oil, GAIL, HPCL, and BPCL. The Minister disclosed that 42 Kilo Tonnes Per Annum (KTPA) green hydrogen tenders have been floated by refineries, and an additional 128 tenders are planned based on the outcomes of the current ones. This move signifies India's commitment to exploring alternative sources of energy to achieve energy security and support the green energy transition. The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is providing the necessary momentum to propel these efforts. Minister Puri highlighted his recent interactions with stakeholders from the green hydrogen sector to review progress in all facets, including production, transportation, storage, and application. This engagement reflects the comprehensive approach being taken to boost the green hydrogen industry and transform India's energy landscape.
