India has made significant progress in green hydrogen development, with the allocation of 862,000 tonnes per annum production capacity and 3,000 MW annual electrolyser manufacturing capacity to multiple companies. The country has launched pilot projects in sectors like steel, mobility, and shipping to explore the potential of green hydrogen applications. Through initiatives like the National Green Hydrogen Mission, India aims to achieve energy independence and Net Zero emissions by 2070, with a specific goal of 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen production by 2030. This endeavor is expected to attract substantial investments, create job opportunities, and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The government has also introduced the 'Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme' and exempted green hydrogen and green ammonia plants from environmental clearances to facilitate the growth of the sector. Additionally, the identification of ports as Green Hydrogen hubs and the supportive policies announced by 15 states further underline India's commitment to becoming a major global exporter of green hydrogen by 2030.
