Morocco is set to capitalize on its strategic potential in renewable energy and green hydrogen to establish itself as a key player in the sustainable aviation industry. Backed by a recent BCG study, the country aims to transform sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) into a significant industrial asset at the regional level, contributing to the decarbonization of air transport and enhancing energy sovereignty. Despite the slow uptake of SAFs globally, Morocco's unique advantages, including abundant renewable resources and advanced airport infrastructure, position it as a pioneer in clean aviation. The report emphasizes the need for a collective effort between public and private sectors to drive the adoption of SAFs, with Morocco urged to lead by example in creating an ecosystem conducive to sustainable aviation investments. By aligning stakeholders, launching pilot projects, and enhancing the investment climate, Morocco can secure a prominent position in the evolving aviation landscape. While the production of SAFs may currently be costly, early adopters like Morocco are poised to gain competitive advantages in the long run, enhancing energy autonomy and projecting a modern, environmentally conscious image.
