Hidrogenii, a joint venture between Plug Power Inc. and Olin Corp., has recently unveiled its 15 metric-ton-per-day hydrogen liquefaction plant in St. Gabriel, Louisiana. The facility, one of the largest electrolytic hydrogen liquefaction sites in North America, symbolizes a significant advancement in bolstering the regional hydrogen supply chain and driving the US shift towards low-carbon energy. This new plant is designed to liquefy hydrogen produced by Olin for transportation via trailers throughout the United States, with a focus on serving Plug Power's material handling customers. By employing a novel spot pricing market, the plant can liquefy up to 15 tons of hydrogen daily at maximum capacity, thus expanding Plug Power's overall production capacity to 40 tons per day. Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug Power, highlighted the importance of the Louisiana plant in enhancing the US hydrogen network and improving the company's financial standing by utilizing a reliable and cost-effective hydrogen source. Ken Lane, president and CEO of Olin, emphasized the alignment of this joint venture with Olin's strategic approach to capital allocation. The establishment of Hidrogenii in 2022 aimed to construct and manage a cutting-edge liquid hydrogen facility in St. Gabriel, aligning with Plug Power's broader initiative to develop a national green hydrogen network. With operations in multiple continents and a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem covering production, storage, delivery, and power generation, Plug Power is driving the expansion of the global hydrogen economy. The company's diverse offerings, including electrolyzers, liquid hydrogen, fuel cell systems, storage tanks, and fueling infrastructure, cater to various sectors like material handling, industrial applications, and energy production. Having deployed tens of thousands of fuel cell systems and hundreds of fueling stations, Plug Power stands out as the leading user of liquid hydrogen, with operational plants in Georgia, Tennessee, and now Louisiana, collectively achieving a total daily production capacity of 40 tons.
