Jean Poll Alva Araujo, a Sustainable Systems graduate from the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), reflects on his academic journey and future aspirations. Jean's background in environmental engineering from Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina in Peru, coupled with research experiences in various countries, led him to specialize in Sustainable Systems with a focus on green hydrogen applications and energy decarbonization at SEAS. His decision to choose SEAS was influenced by his interest in the research of Assistant Professor Michael Craig and Professor Greg Keoleian, who specialized in areas aligning with his goals. Throughout his time at SEAS, Jean engaged in diverse activities, including presenting research at international conferences, participating in the Hydrogen Grand Challenge, and working on an environmental consulting internship with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. SEAS' multidisciplinary approach allowed Jean to collaborate on a capstone project with the Rocky Mountain Institute, analyzing green hydrogen's potential in India's power sector. He describes his SEAS experience as enriching, praising the faculty's expertise, resources, and the school's supportive environment. Looking ahead, Jean envisages a career in environmental consulting or research, with a long-term goal of establishing a company that integrates technology and sustainability to enhance renewable energy solutions.
