The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has unveiled a $3.7 million fund to bolster clean hydrogen-based fuel cell resources in New York. This initiative, part of NYSERDA’s Advanced Fuels and Thermal Energy Storage Program, aims to propel the development and demonstration of advanced fuel cell technologies. Doreen M. Harris, the President and CEO of NYSERDA, highlighted the importance of exploring advanced fuels, including clean hydrogen solutions, to expedite the delivery of clean energy across the state. The funding opportunity targets innovations that can enhance grid reliability, facilitate the decarbonization of industrial processes, and seamlessly integrate renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. Under the leadership of Governor Hochul, the state is committed to exploring clean hydrogen-based solutions as a means to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and bolster grid resilience. The competitive solicitation seeks proposals from various stakeholders, including engineering firms, clean hydrogen fuel suppliers, and power generation operators, to formulate designs for clean hydrogen-based fuel cell solutions. The program is structured into two phases, with Phase One offering funding for initial scoping efforts and Phase Two focusing on detailed assessments and community engagement plans. The funding announcement builds upon New York State's existing investments in clean hydrogen solutions and aligns with the state's ambition to achieve an emissions-free economy by 2050. NYSERDA’s ongoing Innovation and Research program, with substantial investments directed towards clean energy transitions, is pivotal in supporting the state's clean energy goals.
