The Nova Scotia government is backing green hydrogen projects in the second round of funding from the Clean Fuels Fund. A total of $3 million was allocated to seven projects focused on clean fuels innovation. Energy Minister Trevor Boudreau highlighted the province's commitment to developing and utilizing low-carbon and renewable fuels to drive its industries and businesses towards a greener future. Among the projects, Innergex received funding to establish a hydrogen production hub named Osprey H2 in Halifax. Waterford Energy Services Inc. secured funding for a mobile green hydrogen production facility, and the Municipality of the County of Richmond is developing a clean fuels strategy for the Strait of Canso to leverage green hydrogen for local heavy industry. The projects also explore the potential of hydrogen to decarbonize transportation and utilize biomass for heating and clean fuel purposes. The Clean Fuels Fund, part of Nova Scotia's Climate Change Plan for Clean Growth, focuses on reducing emissions, transitioning to clean energy and transportation, fostering a clean economy, and enhancing climate resilience. With the financial support from the Clean Fuels Fund, the aim is to accelerate green hydrogen production regionally, drive emissions reductions, meet climate targets, and create economic opportunities through clean innovation. The initiative is part of a two-year plan with a total of $6 million dedicated, with an additional $3 million set aside for seven more projects in 2024-25.
