Adani Group has commissioned India's first off-grid 5 megawatt green hydrogen pilot plant in Kutch, Gujarat. The plant produces hydrogen using electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources like solar energy and is not connected to the main electrical grid. By relying entirely on its own renewable energy generation, this plant showcases valuable operational flexibility, especially in dealing with the variability of solar power while ensuring efficiency, safety, and performance. The facility, built by Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), marks a key milestone towards enabling India's National Green Hydrogen Mission. It operates completely off-grid, powered by solar energy and integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System. This initiative is part of ANIL's efforts to develop large-scale production facilities for green hydrogen and its derivatives, promoting sustainability and leadership in the emerging green hydrogen economy. By producing green hydrogen and its derivative products like green ammonia and green methanol, the project aims to meet the demand across various sectors in domestic and international markets. The plant, featuring a closed-loop electrolyser system, is designed to dynamically respond to real-time renewable energy inputs, providing operational flexibility and ensuring efficiency. The Adani Group's commitment to innovation and sustainability is highlighted through this breakthrough in the green hydrogen sector. The pilot plant is a proof of concept for the upcoming Green Hydrogen Hub in Mundra, Gujarat, which is expected to significantly contribute to India's low-carbon future. This initiative aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Mission and supports India's vision for energy self-sufficiency and decarbonization of energy-intensive industries to achieve global net-zero targets.
