BASF, based in Ludwigshafen, is making strides in sustainability by introducing two new renewable ammonia grades, namely renewable ammonia and renewable ammonia solution 24.5%. These products are produced at the company's Verbund site by utilizing renewable energy-derived hydrogen in the ammonia plant, reducing the reliance on natural gas. The renewable ammonia grades have been certified according to ISCC+ and can be seamlessly integrated into existing processes as a 'drop-in' solution. BASF's Vice President Business Management Ammonia Value Chain, Dr. Jens Aßmann, highlighted the company's focus on achieving net zero for its products, with the renewable ammonia offering a significantly reduced product carbon footprint compared to other low-CO2 ammonia grades. The increase in demand for low-carbon or 'green' ammonia has prompted BASF to offer these innovative products to cater to market needs. This initiative aligns with BASF's broader sustainable journey, with plans to introduce circular or low PCF options for every major product line by 2025. The company's commitment to climate neutrality and net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050 is further evidenced through the expansion of its sustainable product offerings. BASF's innovative approach to sustainability and green transformation is a testament to its commitment to environmental protection and social responsibility in the chemical industry.
