A significant milestone has been reached in Bradford as N-Gen Energy Solutions and Hygen Energy sign a contract with the government to establish a hydrogen production facility and fuelling station in the city. Backed by government subsidies totaling £2bn, the project aims to produce low carbon hydrogen that can be competitively priced against fossil fuels for 15 years. This initiative, known as Bradford Low Carbon Hydrogen, is the leading project among 11 schemes selected in the UK's first hydrogen allocation round, highlighting the country's commitment to hydrogen as a clean energy solution. The planned facility is set to be a key player in the region's efforts to transition towards sustainable energy sources. It is expected to provide companies and heavy vehicle operators with access to locally produced hydrogen, supporting the decarbonization of transportation and industrial sectors. The project involves repurposing a site on Bowling Back Lane in Bradford, where a former gas plant will now house hydrogen production, storage, and refuelling infrastructure. Through the process of electrolysis, the facility will utilize electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, ensuring a green and sustainable production method. The joint efforts of N-Gen Energy Solutions, backed by CKI Infrastructure, and Hygen Energy, led by Jo Bamford, demonstrate a strong partnership between the private sector and the government in driving forward this innovative project.
