Carbon Trust Partners with H2SEA for Offshore Hydrogen Production Study
Key Ideas
  • The Carbon Trust has engaged H2SEA for the Offshore Hydrogen Production Platform Design project under the Integrator Programme.
  • Funded by energy players, the program aims to explore offshore wind's role in a low-cost, low-carbon energy future.
  • The project includes phases focusing on market screening, technical design, regulatory compliance, and strategic recommendations for future investments.
  • H2SEA intends to create scalable offshore hydrogen solutions using innovative platform designs and offshore wind resources.
The UK consultancy Carbon Trust has appointed green hydrogen company H2SEA to conduct the Offshore Hydrogen Production Platform Design (H2PD) project as part of the Integrator Programme. Funded by key energy companies, including SSE Renewables, ScottishPower Renewables, and Shell, the initiative aims to maximize offshore wind's contribution to a low-cost, flexible, and low-carbon energy future. The third phase of the Integrator Programme will focus on designing a centralized offshore hydrogen production platform to meet the consent requirements in the UK and Germany. H2SEA will lead the H2PD project, investigating the feasibility and design of offshore hydrogen production platforms exceeding 500 MW. The comprehensive study will progress through phases such as market screening, technical design, regulatory compliance, and strategic advisory. By leveraging innovative designs and offshore wind resources, H2SEA aims to accelerate the deployment of green hydrogen production at scale, contributing to renewable energy innovation in the North Sea. Edwin van Drunen, CEO of H2SEA, expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the potential of offshore hydrogen solutions and the collaboration's significance in advancing renewable energy technologies.
