Hydrogen Utopia International PLC (HUI), a company specializing in converting non-recyclable mixed waste plastic into hydrogen and other carbon-free fuels, has announced its intention to access InEnTec's advanced waste-to-hydrogen technology in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The partnership with InEnTec aims to secure 10 exclusive licences for InEnTec's technology, allowing HUI to establish facilities that convert waste into hydrogen and other materials. These facilities are expected to have high Internal Rates of Return (IRR) and will be funded through upfront payments from project counterparties, with each system projected to start commercial operation within 24 months. The InEnTec Plasma Enhanced Melter (PEM) system, which has been successfully operating for over 13 years, can process a variety of waste streams to produce clean hydrogen and capture carbon dioxide. Originally designed for hazardous waste processing, the system now offers an effective solution for industrial decarbonisation and waste reduction. The initial phase of deployment will focus on Saudi Arabia and the UAE, where there is a growing demand for low-carbon construction materials and hydrogen production. The deployment of InEnTec Technology in these regions aligns with their ambitious low-carbon initiatives, including targets to produce significant amounts of low-emission hydrogen by 2030 and beyond. HUI and InEnTec have complementary strategies, with HUI focusing on smaller-scale distributed hydrogen production for transport and municipal use. These initiatives are expected to play a significant role in advancing HUI's vision for a cleaner, decentralised hydrogen economy. The company also aims to address the European market with its technologies in the future, leveraging the experience gained from the MENA region deployment. The announcement indicates a positive sentiment towards hydrogen as a key component in addressing industrial decarbonisation, waste reduction, and low-carbon initiatives in the MENA region and beyond.
