The Portuguese Government has recently approved funding for 17 projects focusing on hydrogen and renewable gases, totaling €70 million. These projects are part of the REPowerEU regulation and are financed through the Recovery and Resilience Plan, managed by the Environmental Fund under the Ministry of Environment and Energy. The selected projects went through a competitive process based on strict technical criteria, emphasizing decarbonization potential, investment efficiency, territorial impact, technical capacity, and innovation. Public and private companies were eligible to participate in the call for proposals. Beneficiary companies include Mota-Engil Bioenergy, AGERE, and H2Zone, among others, all contributing to the expansion of Portugal's green hydrogen production capacity. This investment is vital for responding to the energy crisis in 2022 and is in line with the European Union's climate and energy objectives. The Minister for Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, praised Portugal's contribution to clean energy geopolitics and emphasized the advancement towards energy independence and national innovation. The government's commitment to the energy transition is reinforced through the efficient and results-oriented use of PRR resources. This strategic move positions Portugal as a significant player in Europe's transition to clean and sustainable energy.
