Twente in the Netherlands is set to become home to a state-of-the-art test and training facility for hydrogen with the development of HyField at Technology Base Twente. The cooperation between the Twente Safety Campus (TSC) and Cogas brings together expertise to create a unique environment for practical hydrogen testing and training. HyField will cater to research institutes, emergency services, and companies, providing a safe space for hands-on experience with hydrogen applications throughout the year. The project, driven by the anticipated significance of hydrogen in the future energy landscape, emphasizes the need for adequate preparation and training facilities for grid operators. The first phase of HyField focuses on constructing essential infrastructure such as a secure hydrogen storage facility and an internal hydrogen network. This foundational setup will enable realistic testing scenarios and enhance efficiency for conducting experiments. Subsequent phases will expand the facility to encompass training exercises for network operators and emergency services. From simulating emergency situations to practicing response strategies for hydrogen-related incidents, HyField will offer a comprehensive platform for enhancing safety protocols and operational skills.
