The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India has launched the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme of India (GHCI) to strengthen the green hydrogen ecosystem. The announcement was made during a National Workshop in New Delhi, focusing on the role of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the green hydrogen supply chain. The workshop aimed to underscore the significance of MSMEs in India's energy transition and their crucial role in achieving the National Green Hydrogen Mission's objectives by 2030. The workshop featured discussions on R&D collaboration, indigenization of components, and knowledge institutions supporting MSME involvement. Expert presentations covered biomass conversion to hydrogen, financial strategies, and market opportunities for MSMEs within green hydrogen projects. The need for standardized protocols, innovation platforms, and Green Hydrogen Clusters to enhance MSME participation was emphasized. The National Green Hydrogen Mission in India targets establishing the country as a global hub for green hydrogen production. By 2030, the mission aims to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 5 Million Metric Tonne per annum, create over six lakh jobs, and reduce fossil fuel imports significantly. The mission emphasizes the importance of policy stability, investment, and capacity building for MSMEs to thrive in the green hydrogen sector, positioning India as a potential manufacturing hub for green hydrogen technologies.
