The Department of Energy (DOE) in the Philippines is taking the first steps towards native hydrogen exploration through a survey conducted in Zambales and Pangasinan. This survey aligns with the upcoming service contracts for the country's emerging energy resource, native hydrogen. The DOE's technical team focused on areas with strong geological potential for hydrogen generation, such as hot springs and ophiolitic rock formations. Collaborating with various organizations, the survey aims to guide future service contractors by providing essential geological and environmental data. Energy Undersecretary Alessandro O. Sales emphasized the importance of the survey in prioritizing exploration efforts and developing sustainable energy sources. Additionally, preparations are in place for the Philippines' inaugural training program on native hydrogen exploration to enhance local technical expertise. The survey aligns with the ongoing research by the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI), showcasing the significant potential of natural hydrogen reserves in the region. This initiative highlights the country's commitment to clean energy development and capacity building in the emerging field of native hydrogen.
