Key Ideas
  • Adani Enterprises introduces India's first hydrogen fuel cell truck in Raipur to promote cleaner transportation and reduce carbon footprint.
  • The trucks, developed in collaboration with energy technology firms and auto manufacturers, have smart technology and three hydrogen tanks for a 200-kilometer range.
  • Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai flags off the first truck, emphasizing the state's commitment to sustainability and setting new industry standards.
  • The initiative aligns with Adani Group's focus on decarbonization and responsible mining, aiming to pioneer sustainable practices in the mining industry while reducing emissions and noise.
Adani Enterprises, a flagship company of the Adani Group, has launched India's first hydrogen fuel cell truck in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, as part of their efforts to promote sustainable transportation and reduce carbon footprint. These trucks, developed in collaboration with Indian and international energy technology firms and a major auto manufacturer, are equipped with smart technology and three hydrogen tanks, enabling them to carry up to 40 tonnes of cargo over a 200-kilometer range. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off the first truck, highlighting the state's commitment to sustainability and its leadership in adopting eco-friendly practices. The initiative represents a significant step towards decarbonization and responsible mining for the Adani Group, which aims to set new standards in sustainable practices in the mining industry. The project, a joint effort between Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), will see hydrogen cells sourced from Adani New Industries, which also produces green hydrogen, wind turbines, solar modules, and batteries. The move to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is crucial for reducing emissions and noise in the mining sector, ultimately contributing to lower crude oil imports and a reduced carbon footprint for India. Hydrogen, as the most abundant element, offers a clean energy solution with no harmful emissions. The hydrogen fuel cell trucks not only match diesel trucks in range and load capacity but also emit only water vapour and warm air, significantly reducing environmental impact. By embracing cleaner fuels and sustainable mining practices, the initiative by Adani Group and the Chhattisgarh government paves the way for a more environmentally conscious and efficient future in the transportation and mining sectors.
