Oman has launched its third green hydrogen auction in Duqm, signaling its ambition to enhance its global standing in green hydrogen production and export. The auction, orchestrated by Hydrom, aims to attract qualified developers to invest in Oman's rapidly growing hydrogen ecosystem while contributing to the global green hydrogen economy. Learning from past rounds, this auction offers flexibility and optimization to ensure competitiveness and scalability. A land block of up to 300 sq km in Duqm is available for proposals, with a minimum project size of 100 sq km. Bidders have the freedom to define their project footprint within the block, allowing tailored configurations that suit their development strategies. The extended preparation period of nine months offers ample time for thorough project planning. Qualified bidders will submit proposals in early 2026, with awards to follow. The auction not only focuses on green hydrogen production but also encourages exploration of surplus renewable electricity sale to the national grid, enhancing project value and integration into Oman's energy transition. Oman's commitment to green hydrogen is evident through its comprehensive energy transition efforts, including a 2,000-km hydrogen pipeline and a liquid hydrogen export corridor to Europe. The country targets net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and aims for 30% renewable energy in its power mix by 2030. With previous rounds securing significant investments and production capacity commitments, Oman is poised to be a leading player in the global green hydrogen market, supported by substantial renewable energy infrastructure and strategic trade corridors.
