The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India has put forth a proposal for a distinct registration number plate scheme for vehicles running on hydrogen fuel. This initiative, outlined in a draft notification, aims to introduce a new category of number plates based on the type of vehicle. Specifically, commercial hydrogen vehicles will bear number plates with a green top half and a blue bottom half, featuring figures in yellow. On the other hand, private hydrogen vehicles will have a similar color scheme but with white figures. Moreover, for cabs operating on rent, the proposed design includes a black top half and a blue bottom half, with yellow figures. The proposed color-coding system is intended to clearly differentiate hydrogen-powered vehicles on the road and enhance their visibility. This move is part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable transportation options and encourage the use of environmentally friendly vehicles, particularly those running on hydrogen fuel. By providing a distinctive identity to hydrogen vehicles through unique registration plates, the government aims to create awareness about clean energy alternatives and incentivize the transition towards greener modes of transport.
