Slovenia's Strategic Move: Drafting Hydrogen Action Plan for Sustainable Development
Key Ideas
  • Slovenia's Ministry of the Environment invites bids for a hydrogen action plan aligning with NECP targets until 2030.
  • Hydrogen to aid decarbonization in industrial production, transportation, and energy sectors in Slovenia.
  • The draft action plan aims at cross-sectoral integration through the North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley project, starting hydrogen production by 2026.
  • The plan focuses on infrastructure development, support policies, and timelines to enable a gradual hydrogen ecosystem in Slovenia.
The Slovenian Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy has initiated the process of developing a draft action plan to achieve the hydrogen targets outlined in the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) until 2030, with a perspective to 2040. This plan is anticipated to steer the advancement of hydrogen technologies within Slovenia, particularly focusing on sectors like industrial production, transportation, and energy, aiding in the country's decarbonization efforts. Partly funded by the European Union, this initiative forms a part of the North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley (NAHV) project, a collaborative endeavor involving Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy, set to commence hydrogen production by the conclusion of 2026. The outlined action plan is designed to offer guidance concerning infrastructure development, supportive policies, and incentive mechanisms necessary to foster the gradual evolution of the hydrogen ecosystem in Slovenia. It is mandated to detail strategic objectives, measures, and projects for hydrogen deployment, incorporating cross-sectoral integration such as power-to-X solutions. Additionally, the plan is expected to include an examination of prevailing hydrogen strategies within the EU, an overview of ongoing hydrogen projects in Slovenia, and recommendations related to technical, political, financial, legal, and regulatory aspects, alongside an assessment of environmental and socio-economic implications. Interested parties have until July 17 to submit bids, and the completion deadline for the task is set at 10 months post the signing of the contract.
