Athena Resources has partnered with Warradarge Energy and Fenix Resources to establish the Mid West green iron project in Western Australia's mid-west region. The project aims to produce green iron by utilizing local ultra-high grade iron ores and green hydrogen, a carbon-neutral energy source. Athena's role involves providing ore samples from its Byro magnetite project to trial suitable green iron technologies. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional steel production processes. The parties have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on planning and establishing the project, forming a new company, Mid West Green Iron, to drive the project's development. Peter Jones, Athena's managing director and CEO, highlighted the unique capabilities of the Byro magnetite project to provide ultra-high-grade concentrate products for green iron development. The project will progress through three stages: validation, demonstration, and commercial production, with the potential for additional partnerships and funding agreements during the demonstration phase. The focus on green iron production not only aligns with sustainability goals but also opens up new market opportunities for Athena's iron products, complementing its existing export ventures.
