GSE Solutions and NuScale Power have partnered to develop a sophisticated hydrogen fuel cell generation and storage plant simulation model in Corvallis, Oregon. The collaboration involves redesigning critical components of NuScale's reversible solid oxide fuel cell (RSOFC) system using GSE's JTopmeret and JLogic modelling technology. This initiative supports research into clean water delivery and efficient hydrogen production technologies, catering to industrial applications requiring over 200 metric tonnes of hydrogen per day. NuScale has enhanced its small modular reactor (SMR) technology with an integrated energy system simulator that focuses on high-temperature steam electrolysis mode and hydrogen production. This innovative integration positions NuScale as the first SMR company to incorporate hydrogen production into its control room simulator. The joint effort between GSE Solutions and NuScale aims to test control strategies for hydrogen storage and contribute to decarbonisation goals. A single NuScale power module coupled with a reverse osmosis desalination system can produce 150 million gallons of clean water daily without emitting carbon dioxide. With 12 power modules, NuScale can provide desalinated water for a city of 2.3 million residents and power 400,000 homes. Additionally, NuScale's uprated power modules have received design approval from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, marking a significant milestone in sustainable energy production. The collaboration between GSE Solutions and NuScale Power highlights the advancement in clean energy technologies and underscores the importance of industry partnerships in driving innovation for a more sustainable future.
