The European Commission has allocated €32.5m to Spanish grid operator Enágas to support the development of Spain's hydrogen gas network. This funding will be utilized for conducting studies and engineering projects related to the 2,700km Spanish Hydrogen Backbone, which aims to connect various production and demand centers in the country. Enágas has signed a grant agreement with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency to facilitate the implementation of this initiative under the Connect Europe Facility program. The company's CEO, Arturo Gonzalo, emphasized the significance of this project during an internal event, stating that it marks the beginning of a new technological era in building the hydrogen infrastructure.
