French Investor Hy24 Considers $115M Investment in Green Hydrogen Fertilizer Project in Paraguay
Key Ideas
  • Hy24 may invest $115 million in ATOME's green hydrogen-based fertilizer project in Villeta, Paraguay.
  • The project aims to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis powered by hydropower for sustainable fertilizer production.
  • ATOME predicts the facility to become one of the largest renewable fertilizer production sites in the Western Hemisphere.
  • The project is expected to displace significant emissions in the sector and commence fertilizer export by 2027.
Hy24, a French hydrogen investor, is considering a substantial investment of up to $115 million in ATOME's green hydrogen-based fertilizer project in Villeta, Paraguay. The investment would aid in establishing a facility that utilizes electrolysis powered by hydropower to produce green hydrogen, which will then be converted into green calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) fertilizer. This 145-megawatt project, set to commence production by 2027, aims to export fertilizers derived from baseload renewable power. With an annual production capacity of 264,000 tons of CAN fertilizer, the Villeta Project is anticipated to play a significant role in reducing emissions in the sector. ATOME envisions this project to be a key player in renewable fertilizer production on a large scale in the Western Hemisphere. The investment comes from Hy24's Clean Hydrogen Infrastructure Fund, a joint venture between Ardian and FiveT Hydrogen, signaling a strong focus on sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives.
