Oman has launched its third green hydrogen auction round for projects in the Duqm area, emphasizing its ambition to lead in global green hydrogen production and export. The auction, managed by Hydrom, aims to attract qualified developers to invest in Oman's fast-growing hydrogen ecosystem. Offering a 300 sq km land block in Duqm for projects, the auction allows flexibility in project design, with a focus on scalability and competitiveness. The timeline provides a nine-month preparation period for bidders, ensuring comprehensive project planning. The auction process began with the Request for Qualification (RFQ), leading to proposal submissions in early 2026. Alongside green hydrogen production, developers can explore selling surplus renewable electricity to Oman's grid, maximizing project value. Oman's strategic advantages include common-use infrastructure, a stable regulatory framework, and proximity to European and Asian markets. The country's energy transition efforts involve a hydrogen pipeline and a liquid hydrogen export corridor to Europe. Oman's green hydrogen sector plays a vital role in achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with over $49bn in investment secured for projects aiming to produce over 1mn tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030. Fueled by more than 30 GW of renewable energy, these projects position Oman as an advanced player in the global hydrogen market.
