Austria’s OMV unveiled two significant sustainability projects at its Schwechat refinery. The first, the ReOil® chemical recycling plant, is aimed at converting challenging-to-recycle plastics into high-quality feedstock, in support of circular economy objectives. The second project is a 10 MW electrolyzer facility, the largest in Austria, that generates up to 1,500 tons of green hydrogen each year. Simultaneously, OMV revealed plans for a sizeable 140 MW green hydrogen plant in Lower Austria, anticipated to produce 23,000 tons of green hydrogen annually by 2027. These endeavors are integral to OMV's overarching strategy to make its operations carbon-neutral by 2050, while also providing more environmentally-friendly fuels and raw materials. The CEO of OMV praised these initiatives as pivotal in steering the company towards becoming a sustainable player in the fuels, chemicals, and energy sectors.
