UK and Dutch Companies Partner for Decarbonized Energy Solutions
Key Ideas
- National Gas partners with Gasunie for decarbonization using natural gas, hydrogen, biomethane, and CCS technologies.
- The partnership focuses on advancing decarbonized energy solutions across different sources through pragmatic research and development.
- Gasunie appointed as the future hydrogen network operator in the North Sea by the Dutch Minister for Climate and Energy Policy.
The UK transmission system operator, National Gas, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Dutch energy infrastructure company, Gasunie, to advance decarbonization efforts using a variety of technologies including natural gas, hydrogen, biomethane, and carbon capture and storage (CCS). The memorandum of understanding was signed to collaborate on decarbonized energy solutions recognizing the complexity of climate change challenges. Gasunie has been designated as the future operator for the hydrogen network in the North Sea by the Dutch government. Additionally, National Gas has engaged in collaborations with European partners such as Germany's GASCADE for a hydrogen pipeline and Belgium's Fluxys for exploring decarbonization methods and infrastructure. One of the key projects is the UK-Germany Hydrogen Corridor, aiming to establish an offshore pipeline connecting the UK's hydrogen production potential with Germany's demand. This initiative seeks to contribute to the resilience and flexibility of Europe's growing hydrogen economy.
