Viva Energy has introduced a trailblazing energy hub in Geelong, Australia, featuring the nation's premier publicly accessible station that offers renewable hydrogen refueling alongside ultra-fast charging for electric vehicles. This $62 million project represents a pivotal step towards achieving a zero-emissions future, particularly within the heavy vehicle industry. The site's design, tailored to accommodate large trucks with drive-through bays, fills a crucial gap in Australia's existing EV charging infrastructure. In a ceremony attended by Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Victorian Minister for Climate Action Lily D'Ambrosio, the facility was officially unveiled, symbolizing a significant investment in sustainable transport. Noteworthy is the station's capability to produce green hydrogen on-site using a 2.5MW electrolyser powered by renewable energy, sourced from recycled water supplied by Barwon Water. The initiative is geared towards heavy vehicle usage, with prominent partners like Toll Group, ComfortDelGro Australia, Cleanaway, and Barwon Water set to deploy hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles at the location. Additionally, the site offers ultra-fast charging through a 350kW i-charging blueberry DC Ultra-Fast Charger, catering to heavy vehicles that require large drive-through bays, a rare feature in Australia's EV landscape. Backed by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), this project exemplifies the synergy between government and industry in fostering innovation.
