Adani Enterprises has made a groundbreaking introduction by unveiling India’s first hydrogen-powered truck designed for mining logistics in Chhattisgarh. This innovative truck, equipped with three tanks, has the capacity to transport 40 tonnes of cargo over distances spanning 200 kilometres. The truck was inaugurated in Raipur by Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, signifying a pivotal moment in the effort to diminish emissions within the mining sector. It will be primarily responsible for transporting coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to the state’s power plant, backing the operations of the Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Ltd. The state's decision to appoint Adani Enterprises as the mine developer for the block following a competitive bidding process further underscores its dedication to sustainability. Chhattisgarh aims to curtail its carbon footprint through the deployment of forward-thinking solutions. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized the state's role in not only meeting the nation's electricity demands but also leading the charge in adopting eco-friendly practices. Adani Enterprises plans to develop additional hydrogen-powered trucks in collaboration with energy and automotive companies, with the objective of gradually replacing diesel trucks in its logistics operations. The vision of Adani Enterprises for a cleaner future is evident through initiatives like the hydrogen-powered truck project. Dr. Vinay Prakash, CEO of Adani Natural Resources, emphasized that this endeavor forms a part of the organization's wider commitment to decarbonization and responsible mining. In addition to hydrogen-powered trucks, Adani is incorporating technologies such as solar power, autonomous dozers, and tree transplanters into its operations to mitigate environmental impact. The partnership between Adani Natural Resources and Adani New Industries Ltd is anticipated to significantly contribute to cleaner transportation and a notable reduction in India’s carbon footprint. Hydrogen-powered trucks, by emitting only water vapor, are instrumental in creating a quieter and more sustainable mining operation.
