Ballard Power Systems has signed a supply agreement with Sierra Northern Railway to provide 1.5MW of fuel cell engines, showcasing a move towards sustainable rail operations. The agreement, part of Sierra Northern Railway's decarbonisation strategy in California, involves retrofitting three diesel locomotives with 12 FCmove-XD engines for zero-emission operations powered by hydrogen. Ballard's fuel cells offer a cost-effective alternative for heavy-duty applications, providing high reliability, durability, efficiency, and power density.
