CyrusOne and E.ON Partner to Revolutionize Data Centre Infrastructure in Europe
Key Ideas
  • Strategic partnership between CyrusOne and E.ON aims to enhance power and cooling infrastructure for data center customers in Europe.
  • E.ON to design and implement a bespoke power generation system at CyrusOne's FRA7 data center in Griesheim, Germany, capable of delivering an additional 61 megawatts of electricity by 2029.
  • The initiative includes plans for the power plant to operate with up to 25% hydrogen blended in the fuel mix, with a goal to transition towards full hydrogen operation in the future.
  • The collaboration not only improves the sustainability and efficiency of the data center but also sets industry standards for innovative energy solutions and European infrastructure.
CyrusOne and E.ON have formed a strategic partnership to enhance power and cooling infrastructure for data center customers in Europe, starting with a new power generation system at CyrusOne's FRA7 data center in Griesheim, Germany. E.ON will design and implement a bespoke system to deliver an additional 61 megawatts of electricity by 2029, with plans to use up to 25% hydrogen in the fuel mix. This collaboration aims to boost the total IT capacity of the FRA7 campus to 126 megawatts and improve energy efficiency. The partnership also focuses on grid support, power purchase agreements, heat management, and sustainability. The innovative approach includes the use of absorption chillers to convert exhaust heat into cooling for the data center, enhancing overall efficiency and reducing power consumption. By integrating hydrogen technology and waste heat utilization, the project sets industry standards for sustainable infrastructure and energy solutions in Europe.
