Honeywell and NTPC Green Collaborate for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production in India
Key Ideas
  • Honeywell and NTPC Green signed an MoU to explore sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in India using eFining technology and green hydrogen.
  • The collaboration aims to support India's transition to cleaner aviation fuels and promote the production and export of SAF to other regions.
  • NTPC's Green Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh, sees SAF production as a crucial aspect in decarbonizing the aviation sector.
  • European Commission and Japanese government also make significant strides in promoting renewable hydrogen production and subsidizing hydrogen for fuel cell trucks and buses.
Honeywell has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC Green to investigate the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in India. The collaboration will utilize Honeywell’s eFining technology to create SAF from carbon dioxide captured from NTPC’s power plants and green hydrogen. This initiative supports NTPC Green's Green Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh, focusing on blending SAF with jet fuel to drive early mover projects in green hydrogen. The partnership combines Honeywell UOP’s experience in SAF production with NTPC's leadership in green hydrogen project development to aid in decarbonizing the aviation sector. The study, projected to conclude by mid-2025, aligns with India's objectives to establish itself as a SAF hub and meet emission reduction targets. Additionally, the European Commission's investment in 15 renewable hydrogen projects and the Japanese government's subsidy for hydrogen in fuel cell vehicles demonstrate global efforts to advance clean energy solutions. The European Union's continued collaboration with the UK on hydrogen regulations and the selection of Electric Hydrogen's solution by Infinium for a large-scale eFuels facility in Texas emphasize the growing importance of hydrogen technology in the energy sector.
