The Energy Storage Association (ESA) was launched in Westminster, establishing itself as the first storage-specific renewable energy trade body for the UK market. The association aims to accelerate the adoption of energy storage technologies, playing a crucial role in the government's Clean Power 2030 Action Plan with an expected £25 billion in private investment over the next five years. ESA will represent various forms of energy storage, including electrical batteries, thermal storage, pumped hydro storage, and hydrogen-based storage from green hydrogen and green ammonia. Founding members of the ESA include GivEnergy Limited, Sunsynk, Powervault, Octopus Energy, Keele University, and Durham University. The leadership of the association consists of interim CEO Jason Howlett and chairperson Baroness Luciana Berger. Baroness Berger expressed her excitement about championing a sector that is vital for achieving the UK's net-zero ambitions, highlighting energy storage's critical role in grid balancing, stability, and its potential for investment, innovation, and leadership in the global transition to clean energy. The UK's energy minister Michael Shanks will deliver the keynote address at Solar Media’s Clean Power 2030 Summits, which will be held in London on 1-2 July. The summit will combine the UK Solar Summit, the Wind Power Finance & Investment Summit, and the Green Hydrogen Summit, offering a platform for discussions on renewable energy and technology advancements.
