Hydrom, OPAZ, and ACME Group have come together to sign crucial agreements aimed at expanding Oman's green hydrogen and ammonia production in Duqm. This move signifies a pivotal step towards the country's sustainable energy future. The agreements focus on integrating Phase 2 and 3 of ACME's green hydrogen and ammonia project in Duqm's Special Economic Zone, with anticipated annual production amounts of 71,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 400,000 tonnes of green ammonia each. By combining these phases with Phase 1, ACME is targeting an impressive 0.9 million tonnes of green ammonia annually. The integration of ACME's project into Hydrom's framework, according to Eng. Abdulaziz Al Shidhani, Hydrom's Managing Director, is a significant milestone in Oman's green hydrogen journey, enhancing investor confidence and solidifying the country's global position in the green hydrogen sector. This move aligns with Oman's national strategy for green hydrogen, aiming to meet global demand and position Oman as a prominent exporter of green hydrogen. Duqm, under the leadership of Engineer Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of SEZAD, is rapidly becoming a focal point for green hydrogen investments, supporting Oman Vision 2040 and the ambitious target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Gursharan Jassal of ACME expressed the collective commitment to Oman Vision 2040 and highlighted the Sultanate's expanding role in the global green hydrogen economy. With substantial investments and production targets in place, Oman is actively setting the stage for a clean energy future, with plans to produce 1.5 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. This coordinated approach underscores Oman's significant contribution to the global green energy landscape.
