Orillia Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) presented its annual report to the Orillia City Council, announcing a $1-million dividend to the city. OPGC operates hydroelectric and solar plants, generating a substantial amount of electricity and contributing to a significant carbon offset. While the operating revenue in 2024 was slightly below expectations due to weather conditions, OPGC made major capital investments in refurbishing a generating station. OPGC also revealed plans for a 25 MW solar energy facility in Ramara in partnership with Chippewas of Rama First Nation. CEO Shaun Hinds emphasized the corporation's crucial role in meeting climate action plan targets and the focus on proven technologies to maximize shareholder returns. Hinds mentioned that OPGC is not currently considering hydrogen-powered projects or charging stations due to their focus on established technologies and the scale of their operation.
