SECI's Green Ammonia Tender: Boosting India's Clean Fuel Supply
Key Ideas
  • SECI extends green ammonia production tender deadline to June 2025 in support of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
  • Tender under SIGHT Scheme aims to supply 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually to 13 fertiliser plants in India.
  • SECI to sign 10-year offtake agreements with selected producers to ensure long-term market support and commercial certainty.
  • Move expected to boost India's clean fuel supply and contribute to the development of the green hydrogen market.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has prolonged the deadline for its green ammonia production tender to 30 June 2025, aligning with the National Green Hydrogen Mission's goals. The tender, launched as part of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme, specifically Mode 2A, Tranche I, targets the annual supply of 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia to 13 fertiliser plants within the country. SECI will play a crucial role as the implementing agency, facilitating demand aggregation and entering into 10-year offtake agreements with chosen green ammonia producers. These agreements are intended to offer commercial assurance and foster the long-term growth of the green hydrogen market and its associated products. The initiative is seen as a positive step towards enhancing India's clean fuel availability, supporting the transition towards sustainable energy practices, and stimulating market advancements in the renewable energy and fertilizer sectors.
