Trinidad and Tobago has emerged as a leader in this field, with a captive demand for rehydrogen used in ammonia and methanol production. During the T&T Energy Chamber’s Caribbean Sustainable Energy Conference, experts discussed the country's plans to provide four megatons per annum of green hydrogen by leveraging offshore wind and solar resources. Ports in T&T, Jamaica, and The Bahamas are being considered as potential hydrogen hubs for the region, facilitating hydrogen transportation and distribution. The integration of Power-to-X technologies enables the storage and utilization of excess renewable energy, addressing the gap between production and consumption. The conference highlighted the importance of coupling renewable electricity with hydrogen to decarbonize challenging sectors of the economy. Additionally, investment managers emphasized the significance of low cost of capital and regional integration to attract investors and reduce capital costs for competitive renewable energy projects in the Caribbean.
