Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Santosh Kumar Sarangi, emphasized India's commitment to the green hydrogen mission at a CII summit. The nation has undertaken pilot projects like hydrogen-powered buses, steel plant trials, and methanol-fueled shipping to integrate green hydrogen into various sectors. With a strong focus on domestic demand building and infrastructure development, India has rolled out tenders for production and electrolyzer manufacturing, receiving enthusiastic responses from industry majors. While India is on a promising trajectory domestically, global challenges such as geopolitical tensions and policy uncertainties pose potential obstacles. The country is actively working on certified supply chains for green hydrogen exports, including discussions with ports in Rotterdam and Antwerp. Despite these efforts, clear offtake agreements with foreign buyers remain a key concern. India's proactive approach includes setting stringent green hydrogen standards to cap CO2 emissions and ensure product traceability for exports. This regulatory framework, combined with incentives, global partnerships, and infrastructure development, is aimed at establishing India as a formidable player in the green hydrogen market.
