China has launched its first hydrogen-electric tugboat, the Hydrogen-Electric Tug No.1, at Qingdao Port in Shandong Province. This vessel marks a significant breakthrough in the application of hydrogen energy in China's shipping sector by aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 1,500 tons annually. The tugboat is equipped with a hybrid power system that combines hydrogen fuel cells and liquid-cooled lithium batteries, allowing for zero carbon emissions during operation. With capabilities to operate for over 12 hours at a speed of 9 knots and a towing force of 82 tons, the tugboat is a powerful addition to China's maritime industry. It also features fully automated intelligent shore-based charging technology, filling several gaps in the domestic market and positioning itself as the most potent harbor tugboat with the largest lithium battery capacity in the country.
